Multipup solution?

I know in the past there have been some discussions about how to blend an electro-mag pup and a piezo. Usually we go towards the switches but those of us who have tried that have found that while we get some interesting variations, its not really what we set out to do. I was wondering if anyone has tried a blend pot (like a pan knob) to solve this problem. I guess I'm wondering if there would still be the problem of the piezo shorting the electo-mag. Has anyone tried this with any success? http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Potentiometers/Blend_Pots.html?tab=Instructions#details

  • I am fairly sure that this diagram can allow piezos and magnetic pickups to both produce output, but have no idea why.

  • I've done one that's Piezo---> Volume---> 3-way toggle---> Output. There was also a single coil into the other end of the 3-way toggle. My thinking with that was that I could turn down the Piezo to match the single coil. We've talked about it on here before how this doesn't exactly work. When they are both going into the output, the Piezo affects the tone of the Single Coil. I guess I'm wondering if the same thing will happen with a blend pot. I'm not opposed to experimenting. I'm just curious if anyone else had any luck with it.
  • I made a bass with piezos and pickups. I don't understand this about how the piezo shorts the circuit out. On my bass when the piezo and pickups are switched on the piezo is definitely functional because when you tap top of the guitar the knock plays through the amp. I understand extremly little about circuits for guitars, and I might just be being stupid or something, but I am fairly sure I have blended piezo and pickup. Don't know about blend pots though, sorry. There is a picture of my circuit diagram on my photos.
  • I'm assuming you mean turning down in one while turning up in the other. That was my understanding of how it works. I'm wondering if you're going to run into the same shorting out problem with that as with a 3 position toggle switch. When the switch is in the middle the piezo shorts out the electro-mag. You get some cool tones but not a blend. I'm wondering if this will still happen (and just be adjustable) or not.
  • all a blend pot does is act as two seperat volume controls turnign down the volume on one pickup as it turns down the volume on another. your probably after something more like this http://www.lrbaggs.com/html/products/preamps_ctrlx.shtml
