I am taking my first stab at Cigar Box guitars and just started 3 this weekend. I have moderate colletion of stringed instruments but do not have a Uke or CB guitar so that is my goal for this project.

So far I have the necks and headstocks roughed, beveled to 12 degrees and glued which is Sapele wood. I have Bolivian Rosewood for the fretboards. I had spare chrome and gold grover tuners sets from other projects and I ordered a set of economy open tuners for the 3rd CBG from StewMac. I also ordered fret wire, Mikarta nuts-saddles, pearl dots and side dot material.

I of course will keep 1 for myself, give 1 to my MIL who gave me a bunch of cigar boxes and the third I will donate to a friend who sponsors a golf outing and silent auction for the Downs Syndrom Association on honor of his daughter.

Looking forward to learning from you all.

  • Well, you were the new guy. Nineteen people have joined since you... and counting ๏_๏

  • Well, HEY, CheesyBob! Good to see another FDPer here! 'Course, this place can't replace the good ol' FDP (that's the Fender Discussion Page, for anyone else reading this), but it's a great spot to have your very own page, post photos, videos & music; and for cigar box aficionados there's no better place for information and inspiration. There're a lot of good folks here, all willing to share & help. FDPer Hushnel is here, too, and who knows, maybe others. Anyway, welcome! And have fun with your CB builds!

    • LOL Bear. I went with CB here because I knew there were some on this side of the fence and there was where I was refered to the CBN. I have not heard much from Hushnel since my Shive project. ;-)

the anonymous pick, we don't say it. We only type it.

    • :-o  did someone say the F  word ???

         ;-)

  • welcome to  the  addiction  ;-)

  • Thanks Vance. I had a friend suggest the tune-o-matic but could not get a good string alignment. I was lucky to have a metal supply company in the area so I could go hand pick some brass stock. The rest was from StuMac and some local shops.

  • I love how the Mando-V came out! I'm storing away that trick with the Tune-O-Matic insert. I'll bet your CBGs are going to be beautiful, too.

  • Welcome- sounds awesome, looking forward to seeing your builds.
