My next build calls for install of Gitty's prewired lipstick pickup with volume.  Never did one of these.  How is this attched to box / neck with the height adjustment screws & springs.  I see some pictures in the gallery, but can't find specific instructions on the actual mounting procedure.

  •  So how's the build going Brian ???? .

    • Will get back to the build this weekend
  • I just finished a build using 1 of gitty's lipstick tube pickups, not the prewired. I was very pleased with the outcome, sounds great and no noise. If you want to hear, it's at the top of the page---http://bscbg.com/for-sale306264281?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024306265005?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

    •  Great web page you have and some great builds , love the cans and the use of heavier strings , great sound .

  •  Yes it's License Plate Build , I've put a couple of pics of one of my builds using a single coil pickup as you can see I've only notched enough to house the  pickup and the only places the neck touches the lid are where the fixing screws are , I'd say screw fix rather than glue is if any thing goes wrong with the pickup or wiring you can take it apart .

  • Brian ... Your going want to do like Capo Kids' photo suggests. Your going to have to cut that main member and add another member underneath it (with a supporting heel sticking out front of the box. This will give you all the clearance you need inside the box for your P/U. Just remember I would adjust your notching so that you have a full fretboard thickness above the box top ( or 1/4" for fretless).

  • Your going to love the sound of that lipstick "all light and jangly sounding"! I close down on my last/bottom fret and adjust the clearance to about 1mm. If you want a "no hum or buzz" from your amp - I buy and install an additional Braided Wire Shielding (from EBay) to slip over the existing wiring. Or you could rewire it using the old time push back shielded wiring on the hot side of the wiring?
  • Yes. Make sure you pickup will fit when you lower it into position with the screws. Pickup hight is by taste. I've played with people who like them lower so their tube amp has to work harder. And folks like me that like them has close to the strings as I can get them.

    • I haven't cut the notch for the neck in the box yet, but if the neck is going to be even with the top, doesn't that give up any space for the pickup to be lowered into a recess from the top?  Seems there would have to be a channel routed or notched out of the neck below where the pickup will be mounted to provide that 'space'.  I hate to cut the box and then find out the neck needs to be installed differently.

Here's my last build notched out for a mini humbucker
