I have a cigar box that is 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" x 6-1/4" and I'm worried that this may be too small. Since it is so small, I was wondering if I should just make a cigar box ukelele and get a bigger sized box for the guitar. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!

  • the size of the box shouldnt matter a great deal if your using a pickup and its not to thin. You just wont have a lot of acoustics.
  • I have a whole slue of the Nicaragua Cigar boxes with the same dimensions, or very close, and I will build one and see how it goes, other wise, I will join two boxes together and have a real nice deep and long box unit. If you electrify the box, it really should not make any great difference in sound. But if it is going to be played with out juice, it might sound more like a uke. 50/50 anyway you build. You never know until you try. Maximo 8-)
  • I just made a video about choosing the right box for your guitar. I uploaded it and it should be done processing soon. Take a look and see if it helps answer any of your questions.
  • Thanks, I think I am going to find a larger sized cigar box to make my guitar and for now I'm going to make a soprano ukulele.
  • IMHO it is. But you can make a CBG out of it, you will find that it might not be as successful as you imagined. Try bugger.

  • The "no rules" rule aside, if it were me, I would make a uke out of it and find a box that is in the 9-10 inch long range, 8 inches wide, and 2 inches deep. Those are strictly suggestions, but that is the general guideline I use when selecting boxes.
