Ok, so it's not a cigar box guitar... but from time to time, I love getting a cheap guitar kit from eBay and putting my own spin on it.

As a lifelong Rush fan, I've always wanted a Steinberger headless guitar or bass ever since I saw Geddy Lee playing one of their basses during the Grace Under Pressure tour.  I found this kit of the guitar version for $100 on eBay (search "Muslady Headless Guitar" to find one over there) and turned it into a relic'd, old-world meets ultra modern guitar.

Many people complain that the tremolo is junk, but I learned if you take the time, do some research on proper setup (there's several good Youtube vids out there), it plays great and keeps those strings perfectly in tune.

Here's my video builder's diary.  Enjoy...

  • Muslady makes a bunch of different DIY guitar kits. I built one shortly after Shane posted this. You can get them on eBay.

  • Love it!  Wish I could find a similarly priced headless bass guitar kit.

  • I liked these tremolo systems because they had the "Trans Trem" option where you could lock the tremolo in a down or up position that would change the pitch. Say you where in E, you could go down to D or up to F. It is said that this is where EVH got the idea to make the "D Tuna" for his Floyd Rose system.

  • I had a Steinberger back in the 80’s, wish I  had kept it! I love how you didn’t paint it, wow factor up several points. :)
