as I tinker and not practice I've been wondering about what everyone else uses for the FX setups for 3-4 string playing..  As for now I have a 5 watt tube amp and a Blues Screamer over drive Pedal and thinking about something for the voice... what you got??

  • Five watt Blackheart tube amp with a Digitech RP155 effects box. I  also use low cost (less than $30) Danelectro tremelo and or Distortion pedal. Other amps I use include a $20 fleamarket find  "Washburn" (ac/dc operation) with 4 inch speaker or a Fender Frontman 100 watt.

For vocal ... a $50 mic run thru a Danelectro Fab Echo (its really more like reverb and costs $15) from musicians friend or guitar center. It adds just enough fullness and sustain to make even my voice sound acceptable when recorded.

Any of the above combinations can really make a well made CBG (either with pickup or transducer)  sing, scream or just sound sweet. It all depends on what kind of sound you want and how much extra change you can spare. I have really tried to keep my expenses on add-ons under control to match the whole premise of CBG's made from found items and inexpensive parts.

What is most important for that special sound is to practice and feel comfortable with the CBG in your hand and soon you will find that the sounds become more and more desirable. Don't forget to try a slide, as it can give some semi electric sounds to your playing.

Have fun .... it's all part of the CBG experience.

    • I,very been wondering what people use for vocals.... I gotta pick one of those up...
  • Fender Champion tube amp, with a Pignose amp as a preamp, run through Danelectro Dan-Echo and Daddy-O effects pedals, and a  Samson Portable USB Microphone. Of course, that's just me. Not the best guy to be giving advise on playing...

    • Nope.. that's what I was wondering.. what the common guy is using...  Thanks
