So I've been attempting my first of these, and the box wasn't all that big, and by the time I had reinforced the sides due to it not being a neck-through design, I found that I had no space to drill in a 1/4" jack. Even on the sound board there is no room (mostly due to the amount of wood inside and of course the dog bowl).  Am I stuffed for making this electric now?  Or is there another ingenius way of making it electric?

I was going to screw the edges of the bowl onto the sound board but then it struck me, maybe I shouldn't do that as it might affect the resonance?  Maybe just the pressure of the bridge and strings is enough?

Any advice appreciated.  Just an experimental guitar, I've made plenty cbgs but this is the first dog bowl effort.

  • Ah sorry no pic at the moment.  Good idea about the strat jack plate and I do have a spare one.  I'll have a look when I get home from work tonight :D thanks Paul.

  • Yeah, a pic would help Clarky. I've only built one dogbowl res but it's a huge success so mebbe I could offer some bad advice...

    • You could use a stratocaster jack plate mounted so it protrudes outward rather than being recessed, you may have to cut a bit of relief for the jack socket, but it works well.
