I've made my own version of the Ruby that I call the Onyx. It's good if you like a lot of distortion, but if you want a cleaner amp, I'd use a preamp (can be a like a Tube Screamer or any overdrive pedal) into a TBA820M. I strongly prefer that chip over the LM386.

This one looks very simple (low part count) and in line with the CBG esthetic. Uses the same amplifier chip as the Ruby above.
