  • I use cardboard here and there. What I do is glue wood blocks to the inside of each corner, but I also do the same thing to most wood boxes I use, as well as add a block to the inside of the front of the box so the lid can be securely screwed down. Both front lid corners usually are screwed down also. Most of this isnt really necessary probably, but the thought of 1 of my CBG's getting "woppyjawed" LOL after a sale bothers me enough that I'd rather spend a little more time making sure the CBG stays like I built it.
I wouldnt worry a whole lot about it being cardboard, just look at it close and try to figure out what areas might need a little help and go from there.
On the other hand, I've been told that I over build sometimes, so take my opinion for what it's worth , which is ZERO LOL
  • If I get a box that's not made of wood I insert a wood slab in it and make a solid body. That's just me, though.
    • I have some lamenate hard wood floor left over from doing my kitchen floor, I am thinking that would make a good re-enforcement....plus some 2x2 wood for the neck and bridge.

  • I think the cardboard in a "premium" brand cigar box is a different critter from the cardboard in a Swisher, or MoonShine Crooks box. I love to build on the Punch boxes that have pressboard tops for that sound. The box I have is a little on the flimsy side...
  • This one is cardboard

Haven't had to do any reinforcing at all... just the neck thru design, slap some strings on it, and tune it up. It has a different sound than the laminate wood boxes, for sure... but I still say that's a good thing. Really, some people might call it shitty (and I doubt any of them visit this page!!), but it suits the CBG perfectly.
  • I have a MoonShiner Crooks box I've been dying to use too. My thought was to maybe reinforce the box - parallel to the neck- in a way that supports the top a little. If you use a piezo and amp it, the sound shouldn't be affected too much. A one or two stringer should be ok ....I hope. If I finish first, I'll let ya know....you do the same
