0 Can I substitute SJ4558 for a LM386 ? or am I just wasting time? Posted by Bluesheart on December 27, 2016 at 3:50pm in Building Secrets, Tips, Advice, Discussion You need to be a member of Cigar Box Nation to add comments! Join Cigar Box Nation Email me when people reply – Follow

I did salvage some capacitors that should work as they are the correct numbers.

Thank you!
only good for a preamp or buffer circuit. advantage there is stero in one 8 pin package....
or a mic preamp... could work for a piezo if you left out the 10k resistor feeding power to the mic .
OK, wow, thanks for all the info! I'm not THAT motivated!
like others have said the 4558 is a dual amp. it can be used instead of a LM358. they have the same pinout but may have different gain.
a LM386 is a single amp with a different pinout and vastly different curcuit, so no it cant be a substitute.
Thank you!
LM386 chips are 10 for a dollar on ebay. While the SJ chips could be awesome chips, unless it is a topic you find worthy of personal interest there is no economy in it.
Thank you, that is what I figured.
In short terms, no. The 4558 has 8 pins like the LM386, but that is the only thing these two IC chips have in common.
