So just looking at a few songs from leadbelly and watched the beginning of the Spider Bait version of Black Betty.. Love the beginning but the only show the little guitar for a moment... any ideas??

  • This is simply a uke. Because it has a skin and pot like a banjo it is called a Banjolele. Basically it has four strings, but two of them are doubled. The Hawaiians call this a Taro Patch uke. From the construction of it's pot, is reminds me of a turn of the century English Zither Banjo. Standard uke tuning is GCEA (My...dog...has...fleas) I hope this helps. Enjoy.     
  • Awesome video.  That little instrument looks (to me) like a banjo uke... tho it doesn't really sound like any of the ones I've played.
