I picked up a band saw a while ago - an entry-level SKIL 3386-01. I read good reviews but I've had almost no luck with this thing - I can't get a clean or straight cut to save my life. I've watched all the videos, read all the articles about setting band saws up, followed Alex Snodgrass's advice...but I still can't get the thing to do anything but cut really general cuts that are sloppy and wander all over the place. Anyone have any advice on band saws, and this one in particular?

First things first is your blade fine tooth? If so get a course tooth(6-9tpi) in the widest blade possible for your saw 3/8". There's a video for fine tuning bandsaw with rods as side guides.(I'll see if I can locate it) in the mean time feed the material $low as you can and lower the upper guide to no more then 1/4" above your wood.
How to fine tune your bandsaw.
This is the one I was telling you about.
If you have used the Snodgrass tips with no joy, The only extra suggestion I might make is try a new blade.
