I picked up some white Eros boxes from Lori a while back.Their the 1st Ero's I've tried.I cant figure if I did soemthing wrong or what, did everything using my tried and normally true formula. But it just doesnt have any life to it. Do these Eros boxes need something done differently or what? This is a problem I'm not used to dealing with.Any suggestions?

  • ok,I found the problem.Since I 1st noticed it didnt sound right due to time (xmass holidays) I had just pulled it out of stock until I had time to take a good look at it.Today I got it down and found that the lid of the box had pulled ever so slightly way from the bottom, almost un -noticeable,but still a bit loose.I tightened it up to where it should be and made sure it wont pull loose again ,and it sounds fine now.I'll check it again tomorrow and if its still ok, I'll put it back in stock.
I cant believe I missed it the 1st time.I guess when your trying to build 6 to 10 a week ,run a shop ,plus work a Real FULL TIME JOB ,you miss something now and then.I cant afford to "miss something now and then."
So its something I'll have to check now just before they go in stock from now on.
Thanks guys for the suggestions,it helped me sort out the problem and I wasnt even in the shop at the time.
  • I had to ask.....but I figured you did. Everyone I saw had that stuff. I haven't built an Eros box but a few like em. Let us know how it pans out.
  • LOL yep, everything I could remove from inside I did. But thats something I do with all builds. The CBG is in the shop, I'm home. Thinking it over tho ,I'm wondering if I got the box lid tight when I buttoned her up.If not that might explain the prob.
  • I almost hate to ask...but, did you remove that green felt on the inside lid? (if it had that felt) That stuff is an instant muffler. I have used a lil windex to loosen the adhesive and removed it. I agree with Diane that the thickness may be your enemy when building acoustic. Those may be special candidates for piezos.....tho I'd not try to sell ya one. Good luck with it and let us hear...
  • It's hard to tell about the box, we never tried one. If you need some inexpensive piezos let me know. I can work out a deal with you for bulk purchasing. check out my site

  • Roger, my only guess is that the wood looks really thick on the pix I was able to find of an open box. Do you think that is the case? I don't generally use Romeo y Julietta or Juan Lopez or Partagas boxes for that reason.
  • YA Matt,
I've built close to 300 of these things this year and out of that number only about 2 I was wasnt happy with.I built this 1 exactly like I do any other.I think it must be the box. The reason I ask for suggestions was I see the Ero's boxes used all the time and was wondering if it was something that builders using EROS boxes come across .And if so was there anything they do differently when using an Eros.
I build mostly acoustic to keep costs down for my customers and it seems that lectric is the only way to go.However I've found in my area that folks are not willing to pay the extra money for and electric.
I have 1 more Eros box and I'll build another, if it turns out the same way I probably wont build anymore using this box.
  • I would guess that you did nothing wrong.
When building anything from reclaimed parts, you are at the mercy of the original builders quality.
Sometimes, some boxes just don't cut it. I have replaced 3 boxes on builds that I wasn't happy with and I've only built 12 CBGs. ( 1 I dismantled completely and started over!)

(But pics might help spot a potential problem)

    Matt
  • What went wrong? Never uses an Eros box before. Pictures posted might help. There is a lot of building experience lurking around these pages.
