I have been using 2x2 oak turning blanks to build necks for three string CBG's and they work very nicely with a poplar fingerboard on top. It makes for a strong neck and looks nice. However, I wanted to build a 4 string CBG and there isn't enough room on the head stock (unless I make it abnormally long) to accomodate 4 tuning pegs. I need the head stock to be wider than the 1.5 inches. How do you guys accomodate for this?

I use the same thing for carved neck CBGs. I also use the 1x2 for shorter stuff. (Mandos , etc.) I get 4 tuners for the mandos on the 2" ( 1-1/2" ) finished width.
Randy +5. See the pics online here. Many folks (Randy, Josh,John, ... myself) glue ears on. Or you can cut a channel (like a violin or a dulcimer) and make the pegs horizontal inline (see my pics for one). Wings
