My plan is to paint it white and have my wife paint something similar to this on it. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii48/Qbidmusicandmore/Artistic%20Mayhem/IMG_20-1.jpg (she's the original artist on this one.). Should Automotive primer and rattle can paint do, or is there someone that sells guitar paint in rattle can form? I'm not planning on doing too many painting projects, so I don't plan on buying a compressor and paint spraying tools.

  • Thanks for the suggestions guys and thanks Skeesix for telling me about guitar ReRanch. I'd never heard of them before. Looks like they'll be a good resource for me in the future.

  • Guitar Reranch sells guitar oriented paints in spray cans -

I suggest painting a test board first to test the compatibility of the spray paint with the colored design. If you want it glossy, you would put a clear coat over everything and buff it out.

I've had the best results ever for high gloss using Micromesh.

  • Primer and rattle can is fine. It's just a Squier ;-). Spend some money on some decent pickups, or a pre-loaded pickguard. Then you'll have something with great tone and an awesome paint job. BTW, John Lennon painted his own Strat, and didn't use anything more special than commercial artist paints.
