A standard 1x2 will handle 3 or 4 strings. For 3 strings, I put the middle string down the middle (duh) and use half inch spacing for the two outside strings.

For a 4 string, I put the two outer strings in about 5mm from the edge, and space the two middle ones evenly in the remaining space.
