OK nubie here, I have collected a swack of tunings for a 3 string CBG.

I have built a small scale 3 string CBG, with a 13 inch scale I want to put strings in it but do not understand the "notation" when somebody posts a tuning like AEa or GDg what does the samll case letter mean.

I have the basic Korg digital tuner and when I use it I seem to only get capital letters as readouts.

I have a basic pack of med strings to use for this.

                                                               Cheers Ron.

  • Thank you Keni, got the other 2 CD's that one was out of stock when I ordered them, but this clears things up. Thought I should at least get the strings on before cracking the CD.
    Cheers Ron.
  • A standard guitar has 6 strings. Low to high (EADgbe) Using capitol letters is just a way to separate the larger wound bass strings (EAD) from the thinner plain steel treble strings (gbe) Although, today most players use a wound g string too. To tune a 3 string GDg use strings ADg from a standard pack of strings. Tune the A down to G. I hope this answer your question. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance. Enjoy.
