I think it will be strong enough for 3 strings . But damn bass strings are huge lol ! Hey Ted what was the scale and wood you used for your 3 string ? I have some white ash and red oak i could use .
your build and neck strength , and scale length may be a factor also. not only in guage but number of strings . ie .. without a truss rod .. you may want to go with lighter strings , a shorter scale .. or less strings .
3 strings gives more range of notes, but 2,3 or 4 strings is up to you. I've done a 3 string using the ADG, and kept the big E string for a one stringer in the future

I used a long solid piece of maple, carved neck, rosewood fingerboard, fretless, 34" scale...no cigar box...a walking stick sort of build
