hi guys!
I havn't enjoyed my CBG yet & I alredy started #2
I'm making a fretted lefty for a good friend of mine.
I'v uploaded some photos:
http://www.cigarboxnation.com/photo/album/show?id=2592684%3AAlbum%3A383042&xg_source=activity
now I was to lazy to go and cut the sides to my first CBG size.
now the neck is a bit too wide so I don't now if to make a 4 string insted of 3 string.
what do you think?
Replies
ok,
I desided on 4 strings
what strings to use from a regular 6 pack?
how to tune it?
thank you all for replying!
ok i'm in the step of adding the strings!
I added more photos to my album (2 are with a ruler)
the nut came out 4 cm (1.5 inch)
the bridge is 4.5 cm (1.75 inch)
so what do you think?
I think Mike gave great advice and lots of versatility. Although, at my skill level, getting the nut right on both sides would be asking a lot. :)
Keni's tuning sounds interesting. I seem to try and retry a lot of tunings and come back to these: DGBD for 4s, DGB for 3s, and octave G and G for 2s. Good luck and wishes on you build and playing.
My 2 cents. LOL I would make it a four string. I would use a set of banjo strings. The normally CBG low string would be the high drone string tuned to g. Then the 3 next strings would be D, g, b These three strings have the same interval relationship (513) as my CBG tuned ADf#. The same system of moveable chords would work. A fun little primative banjo. Happy Holidays. Enjoy.
You could make it a four stringer and see how you like it. You can always drop a string and have a three stringer. If you wanted to get fancy you could cut the nut for three strings on one side and cut it for four strings on the other. Drop or add a string and flip the nut and you'd have the best of both worlds. There's no limit to the things you can do on you builds...
That peg head looks more suited to a trey. My general advice is 3 for a lot of slide and 4 for finger chording.
i think it's tellin you it wants to be a 4 stringa
Or you can taper the neck.

Huzza!
