  • Location: Scoggins Farm
  • Latest Activity: Aug 3, 2021

At our meeting on July 6, we had 3 guests all with CBG builds.  We had a show and tell of all the guitars.  There is some very nice work.  Fred brought several jigs used to build guitar body boxes and examples of several stages of construction.  We talked about many construction details.  We played several 12-bar blues along with the bass and drums of the Trio+ pedal.  Paul Scoggins talked with us about our Club activities.  It was warm, but we had plenty of big fans.

The next Carolinas Box Guitar Club meeting, #43, will be Saturday, Aug 3, 2019 from 10:00 am to 2:00+ pm in the horse barn at Scoggins Farm, 7209 Concord Rd Hwy, Monroe, NC.  On 601, the Farm is about 0.4 mile south of the intersection of Hiway 601 and 218 and is about 7 miles from I485 on 218.  There is a big "Scoggins Farm" sign beside 601.  Everyone will need to bring their own lunch and drinks.

We will continue having our monthly meeting at least on the first Saturday of each month.  Our purpose is to help members develop skills to build and/or play the 12-bar Blues on their 3 or 4-string, fret-less, electric, box guitars.   We also have some members working on and playing 6-string guitar and bass, and harmonica.  We currently have 36 on our email list.

For August 3,

We will talk about building a humbucker, slide, box guitar.

We will also review the 7th chord "Box" or pattern for picking an arpeggio rhythm instead of strumming chords.

Also, we'll all perform our Counting Song and do some jamming.

Bring your new cool music equipment or projects for show and tell.  As usual, we will discuss individual building and playing issues.  I hope several of the Blues Jam musicians will attend to help with our jamming.  Bring a small amp, a few watts, for your electric instruments.

So far, our "Carolinas Box Guitar Club Jam" songs include:
Before You Accuse Me, by Bo Diddley or Eric Clapton
Stormy Monday by T. Bone Walker.
The Sky is Crying by Elmore James.
I Almost Lost My Mind by Albert King.
Little Red Rooster by Willie Dixon.

All will use the three chord, 12-bar Blues chord structure. So far, we are playing in the keys of "G", "A", "B", "C" or "D".

We hope to have a video camera to record our jam for the members that couldn't attend and for our personal quality control.

This should be another exciting meeting.

See you there!
