Neck width - working thinner than 1.5"

Just asking a question out of curiosity. Other than the fact of it being a standard wood measurement, is there any advantage of building a cigar box guitar neck 1.5 wide? Especially for a three string instrument to have a neck and fretboard that on "normal" instruments could be for four to even six strings? My first few builds used 1.25 wide material (yardsticks, sign pickets) on broom handles, and now 1-inch square stock. It makes for a comfortable, fast, almost banjo feel.

As I said, just curious.

- Nope .  in fact , as you say    a thinner neck is more comfy  . not to mention (imho)  easier to slide on with  less rattle / fret rattle  etc . 

only possible advantage  i can think of would be  a bigger safety net  on warpage and bowing. and chubby  fingers   ;-)

I thin to just under 1.5" x 7/8 so you get the feel of a wider guitar and my head and tail stock now feature 4 string capability if a customer wants to up grade.

The commercially-available Loog 3-stringers have a 1" wide neck...
