Thank you Scott!!!
To Daniel, if neck is 1.5" wide, middle string is at 3/4 inch mark, so 1/2 " in either direction for string 1 & 3 leaves 1/4" from edge of neck...good enough for slider. As for string height, it's your choice, but 3/16 to 1/4 inch above neck is good place to start. For fret marking, wood burning is good, won't be affected by Danish oil or lacquer.
Lacquer will make them run. What I have found works is spray the lacquer finish first, let it dry well, make your marks and shoot a light coat of the lacquer over the top. After its all dry I usually buff it out with fine steel wool.
Thank you Tom, aren't they affected by the finish? Will the color run if I use a danish oil or lacquer finish?
Hi Daniel, I have used Sharpie marking pens to make the fret lines on fretless CBGs. Seems to work well and you even have a choice of colors.
Any ideas for marking frets. My guitar is fretless, but I want to mark the frets as a learning reference but don't like wood burning
Thank you Keith, I'll certainly check it out...
Howdy Daniel - Save yourself a boat-load of 'time' and 'heartache'....go to www.GittyMan.com and get his CBG Manual. Very inexpensive and has everything all in one place. If after getting his book, you feel it isn't worth the $14, he'll refund 100% of your money. No cost to try it out.
Post pics of your CBG once you are done and welcome to the journey!

I'm working on my first guitar, a 3 string fretless. Does anybody have some tips on string heigth and spacing? The neck is 1.5 inch wide....
I am also using bone nuts and a triangular file. Thanks again for the big help. I am looking at my instruments and they all could use some help in that area.
