My 1st. CGB...well kinda, sorta...

Hey guys, it's been awhile.  I've made (6) 3 string box guitars in the past from boxes I made myself and I decided that it's time to make a real CBG and I went with a Rocky Patel 12 year box I got for $6 locally. I used alder for the neck(very lite weight), walnut for the fretboard, some mahogany, maple and purple heart for accents. Red mahogany stain from &owe's.

For my next CBG, I'm looking for a natural Cohiba or a Perdomo.

For any one interested, I used a plastic white clothes hanger to make my fret dot makers which is a readily available and cheap way of making them. They a little on the large size but at my age I need them to be large.

These boxes are kinda fragile(soft mahogany) but I like the looks of them. I have about 12 hours into it soo far and I anticipate another 6-8 to finish.  Let me know what you think...

Hey - I like that idea - do they sand down pretty easy???

They sand down easily if you do it on a disk sander like I did or cut them down low to the fretboard and random orbit sand them. Thanks for the reply!

A plastic hanger is a brilliant idea. How big a drill bit do you have to use to make the hole?

You know, I didn't pay attention. I just eyeballed it from a drill index set and did a test drill 1st on some scrap. They went in firm with a light tap from a hammer. Thanks for the nice comments guys!
