Strumming that far up the neck also gives a different tone that isn't the same nearer the bridge. This I feel goes some way to giving you that distinctive bell like tone that we all love from your playing. Also the thumb technique you have gives you better control and thus better intonation too as its anchored. The tension on the strings is slacker too there which helps keep a steady rythm easier (a cornerstone of your fluid style).I like this style it goods to be able to experiment and be influenced by others :-)
I chuckle watching this when it comes to your thumb. What I like about your style is you can use your fingers too. My thumb style is most comfortable but it also limits me I feel. I'd love to hear this style with fingers and thumb all getting along well together.
SlowHound you've got a lot of admirers here at CBN and I'm proud to say I'm one of them. Your playing style fascinates me and I was just trying to emulate it a little, with a bit more practice I hope to be able to grasp it one day. All the best for 2013 :-)
Thanks Joel. The trick is to do it in front of the camera, my best stuff never seems to get filmed but I'm learning to feel more at ease in front of the lense :-)
Well said MD, it's a state of mind for me I have to really zone out and let it flow naturally. It's harder to do than you think in this mad crazy world but when you're in it it's like soooooo rewarding, it's like meditating the more you do the longer you can maintain the state of mind :-)
