  • Yeah,I tried a walnut dowel all the way thru the neck.It looked pretty cool. Hard to get that dowel perfectly round.I had my crate amp's overdrive on.I have been looking at Runoffgrove. They have some cool design's Onboard amp would be sweet! .070 should be nice on your action. I just slide them so I really haven't got a set height.I should make them all the same though.I think you will have a nice guitar! I hope you'll share a pic or video when you are done. Lenny
  • Electric Lenny, with the Baritone bad boy. That 29 inch scale is way down. Its a unique build for a lot of reasons. I didn't notice the unique fret dot design before. I have to keep that in mind.
What type of preamp did you use? I have done some but currently None of them are connected. Jfets seem to sound the best and the batteries last a long time. check out (www.runoffgroove.com) for some cool amp ideas. You can listen to the amp design and get the schematics. Some of the boards are available for down load and you can get prebuilt. I think you might like it.
So lets see, unique scale at 29.75 inch, on board amp with thru and thru fret dots. I like it. Vey cool.
What height did you set the action? Can it be played fretted? I'm getting ready for final assembly on a couple and I'm debating string action geometry. I'm thinking maybe .070 inch. I want to play it with a bottle neck and be able to fret a tad. Sweet. Chuck
  • I started on making a box. I have a couple cherry billets that I resawed. I made the box part and I'm going to dowel it together. I clamped it down and predrilled holes for the dry wqll screws. Once it's dry I'm going to remove the screws , drill and dowel it. I still have to come up with top and bottom.
What did the fish say when he hit the wall? Damn. Later Chuck
  • The scale is 29.75 Its nice . On my boxes the bridge ends up further on the box. the neck is 3 ftI downloaded it from Shane Speals site. I don't know if he still has it on there. The last one I did the string height is about .140 from the 1st fret. I usually just do them by feel. Can't really go too high with slide. Good Luck with your boxes!
Post a pic when your done. Lenny
  • Whats the scale on this one Lenny? That neck looks about 10 miles long. What height do you set your actions? I have a couple I'm getting ready to finish and I want to fret and slide with them. Chuck
  • Thanks!! You should make one,Its pretty easy. Corner joints would be awesome. On this one I'm tuned EAEA The big box really helps the tone.More vol too. Thanks for your comments!
  • Nice fiddle. I really like the size of the body.
I'm considering making my own boxes. Cigar boxes are getting hard to find. I'd like to do box joints but I need to make a jig. I have some clear 4x4 pine stashed in the rafters in my basement. You may have inspired me to give it a go. I might just try a glued box first.
Nice job Lenny. What tuning are you using? I have a 3 stringer that I'm playing in open D. I'm using FAD. I'm using light steel strings.
Yours sounds much deeper in tone. Sounds great Dude. Thanks for shering. Chuck
  • Thanks Randy!
  • Het Steve
Thanks!! This one has a Schatten soundboard transducer, I got it from Stu mac.
  • LOVE the sound of this beast !! Just wondering if you're using the standard piezo pickup ?? Cos that thing really has some balls !
