  • Glad to help
  • Patrick - great call.  Found 4 oz. for $12.  Thank you!

  • Check ebay search 42 ga magnet wire I paid a few bucks for I think 4oz? I've made several pick ups and still have plenty left for several more! So unless you plan on making tons you may find a smaller spool for less on eBay? Just a thought
  • I'll go whole hog on the next one. Ordering wire from StewMac and going to the Salvation Army looking for a sewing machine/winder.  Found a youtube on building one that way.  Looks extremely rigid.  Should make winding these narrow bobbins easier. 4-9000 winds is more than I have patience to do with a spool of wire and a cordless drill.

This was more proof of concept that final product.  Just really surprised how good it turned out for a first attempt.

  • Great job! Sounds good! I use a similar method I use 42 gauge wire and about 4000 to 6000 turns ends up sounding similar to a standard single coil pick up. I also pot them in wax.
  • I had my Mustang I cranked, clean with a little reverb.  I tried it out on my little SP-10 and it took all it had.  Overdrive got it loud enough, but was too grainy and broken up.  I think the next one gets a bobbin about half again as big.

  • Sounds great to me, well done! You mentioned needs more winds IMHO, unless you had to really crank your amp to get that volume I'd say it's fine. You could always use a pedal or amp gain to get some grit in it when you want it.
