Yeah, I was thinking of doing something along the lines of one of those old Supro "Pocket" Basses which is technically a routed body rather than a standard semi-hollow design. There's a core with 10 drilled out 3" holes in a circular pattern with a glued top and a fiberglass back screwed on to that. Mag-pup for the neck position and some sort of pickup (did they have piezos back then?) in the bridge.
Here's what it looks like with the back off:
There's a good video on Youtube showing the rescue/rebuild of a demolished 1960 model. Link here. It has a really amazing tubby woody tone. It's still vintage bsounding - but very unique at the same time. How cool is that?
This one begs for a tube amp and an old-style ported bass cab with a 15" speaker like my antique Ampeg B-15N has. Drop a set of D'Addario Chromes on it, and with some reverb, this could be a reggae or dub player's dream machine.

Thanks eK,yeah I had some reverb going, this build is a solid body. next one might be semi hollow. :>)
That is some gorgeous deep sound you're getting. Really liked that bit of 'drive' right around the 1:39 mark too. Nice work!
Did you put some reverb on it, or is that just the box giving it that sweet hollow sound?
Thanks Anders. I built this for someone. Think I need one for me now,the neck was off an old bass and has a rod. :>)
Thank you RTZ and Bug!!
