A little help from Old Lowe

Laugh if you want but this is really the way I do it.After I do this part I use a palm sander along the edges to polish up the rounded over parts just a little more then I hand sand those edges with some 220 to make them shiny again,All the frets come out exactly the same when you do it like this that's why I like it mostly and also because I don't have to use a file at all. I try not to touch the very top of the frets at all with the sanders or sand paper but if I do by accident a little 220 paper cleans them right back up then maybe some fine steel wool too.If you have any questions ask them here and I will answer them on here.

  • well i cant remember what i was using way back then but now I use 40 or 80
    works fine!
Any grit works pretty good but the coarse ones take it off faster of course
  • Lowe, what grit are you using there?
  • Great. You got that sander in the house? I do the same thing, but not in the house anymore. I built a motorcycle in a third floor condo years ago, then 5 guys helped me carry it down three flights. All us hillbillies have a shed for sanders and saws and a small refrigerator with beer....makes the music sound better.
  • I would never laugh at something that works, have you ever raced that baby, we have belt sander races up here if your drunk enough
  • I have always hand filed, but I think I'll give this method a try the next time.
  • That's smart. I use my belt sander too,but its a unwieldily thing.I like that sander your using.
  • Wade it is just a regular belt sander that I turn upside down and then clamp it in a vice.
  • That's slick. How did you attach the belt sander to keep it so still?
  • thanks lowe
  • You guys are more than welcome !
