howdy hippy chip,i just stopped by to answer your question about the bark on the banjo hoop. well i took the easy way---i bought a bowl allready made with the bark on it and it was cut from a log about 10 inches wide and then i cut the center out after i measured a half inch edge and marked it with a pencil. to cut it i used a coping saw after i drilled a pilot hole to put the blade through. thanks for the question. i like telling how i do stuff for those folks that find it interesting.
to my mind the fundamental problem with it is that guys wanna sell their second third and fourth. period. But you cant discourage em. Leave ebay to the noobs and the $65 fretless jobs. Your battle is already lost. sorry dude. your axes look great. dont sell em online is my advice, put em in the hands of accomplished players who recognise quality and see what theyre offering
I bet'cha money, when you first strung it up you didn't like it too much, but as ya played it and got the tuning dialed in it started voicing and growin' on ya. It happens to me every time. :>) Now, start messin' with different tunings, Open C, Open G and D and find that sweet spot. Fun stuff for sure.
glad to hear your close.. would love to see your work. I work odd hours, I/m on 24/7 for 3 weeks and off 1 week. I can get away some days from 10am to 2 pm during the week. My wife and I are house parents for 6 teenage girls. I hope we can get together.
I have made a few using fret wire. The problem I was having was cuting the notchs in it to hold the string. The smaller strings would buzz in the bridge. It works great for the nut but I never could get that buzz out. I will try it again .
Hey Chip,Thanks for adding me as your friend, can never have enough of those. Especailly now as I venture into the unknown. Been into music for going on 40 years now, and played semi-pro on the East Coast Canada blues scene. I've always been curious about Johm Lee Hookers cigar box, but wasn't sure of it's background. So I did the google thing, and I ended up here....what a stroke of luck for me. Did you know that in all my years of playing here in Canada, I nor my wife have ever seen or heard a cigar box, till I run across CBN....I'm not to bad with carpentry skills....and have been carving wood for years. If I take my time (like most, I got a hundred things going at a time). I should turn out a fairly good product.
You're right about doing the dead simple build, just thought I'd throw one together in the shortest time possible, took half an hour. Now I'll have to resist the temptation to refine it. maybe I'll just hang it above the door of my new shed as a sort of mascot
I was just over at Dunedin last weekend. Nice to be near the water again. Are you planning to attend the Florida Folk Festival over memorial day weekend?
Don't worry about the drive, that's not a problem. I have some weeks coming up that I will be out of the area for work off and on. That's kinda how my work schedule goes. If you get something shaping let me know and I'll check my schedule to be sure I can make it.

It is a laminate so there is no scrapes to glue up. I will figure something out later for now im trying to finish all of what I have started.
the bridge is lose so it can be changed at any time. Thanks for the request and comments.
Thanks for adding me as a friend
Hope to speak sometime soon
Cheers
