Real quick delivery on the BC Rich bridge - I now have to try and figure out how to attach the wires as there is no lugs to solder to just a tiny hole. I am not sure it was such a great buy - still that's part of the fun of ebay.
I have been having a look around for electric guitar bridges with piezos built in (really expensive) good old Bezbez has some in but again they are a bit costly.
The cheapest I have found one was for $13.30 plus $11.00 shipping to the UK (same as to the USA) - I lost the bid but was given a second chance offer to buy at this price. It will now take about a month to get here and the piezos have to be wired yourself but for the price I thought it worth getting one to have a look. It is a "BC Rich" 5 string bass bridge and they have another up for bidding. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260780019588&category=41407&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619
I haven't bought from these sellers before but thought you also might be interested.
Thank you for the interest. I have used piezo discs (the cheap ones) with hardtails on several CBGs as I like the way you can easily lower the action. I tend to use 2 or 3 discs wired parallel (as you probably know this reduces the impedance of the discs which then makes for a "better sound" though on a lazy afternoon I tried wiring several discs parallel and in series and couldn't hear any difference. Also if one disc fails the others still work if wired in parallel). In the video I wired these to one lug of a 5 way switch and two minihumbuckers to the other 2 lugs and then sent the output from these to the preamp using a 2.5mm jack.
The sound is Ok but as I tried to show in the video you do get the extra noise from the box rubbing against you (this can be a plus point if you like to add percussion as you play).
If I was planning to just add a piezo then I would do as you suggest and just solder 2 or 3 discs to a 2.5mm jack and glue them to the underside of the box around the position of the hardtail. Though as a first choice I would also add a magnetic pickup as it is cheap to do and adds extra tonal options.
Nice CBGs you are making - you probably already have a good supplier of parts but if you like hardtails check out Bezdez on ebay - the hardtails are top quality and a great price http://stores.ebay.co.uk/bezdez
Hello,

Are those homemade tuners on that second photo? How does it work?
