Walnut ebonising

Hi, the rust method is my favourite too as you get a better penatrarion and as you say leaves a hint of grain showing. If you need a total dense black try an old 78 record, the really brittle ones that smash to smithereens when dropped and dissolve well in some cellulose thinners before applying. prone to chipping but gives a nice old antique look if the distressed finish is preferred. I favour gun stock oil for the former finish but I understand it is banned in the states?

All the best, Chris. :)

  • Hi Chris.

Have you had a look at the "Free Plans" section. That's where I started when I first joined the site. After that I had a better idea what questions to ask and what to look for in terms of previous discussions and forum posts.

I'm sure you will be up and running in no time.

    All the best.

    John

  • Any one kind enough to give me advice on getting started with advice on a first project would be very welcome, I do have some good experience with all kinds of wood, wood turning, carving, horns and antlers of various kinds etc. No plans and no idea where to start, any help, out there, thank you, Chris. :)
