License plate resonator with "distressed" oak box.

Working on a license plate resonator. Using some wormy oak that I split (rived) in wedges along the radials of the log. I got the idea after I split some for firewood and saw how cool it looked. It will go well with the 1969 Yazoo Mississippi license plate. I plan on using a P90 style handwound pickup with a top carved from the same wood.

  • Good idea, awesome!
  • I haven't completely decided how to mount the pickup. I was thinking that I might try to replace the plastic soapbar cover with a flat cover of carved wood. Some design that has something to do with the highway, like a road sign, maybe.

  • Mine's a 1970 from California
  • I too am working on a license plate guitar, and plan on using a C.B.Gitty P90 pickup. I was going to try mounting it at the base of the neck, not on or under the license plate because it is the same color as the letters of the plate and looks really cool with it, and because it's a really nice vintage plate and I don't want to put any holes in it. Any thoughts?
Yours is going to be really cool, your plate is awesome, and Oak is about my favorite wood
