Honeydripper (Movie)

I'm no critic of films, but have to comment on the movie Honeydripper. The setting and period costumes were spot on for the era, but talk about SLOW! The dialog was just about killing me,

Glover had to carry so much of the movie's lack of momentum, with the exception of Keb Mo' who I kept thinking of being some sort of "Crossroads" reference character.

Just wish he would have ripped, on that National, just for 30 seconds.

The other star of the show was that Electric guitar. The design and sound was perfect for the movie! Sheer genius of Ted Crocker.

  • Two of my guitar builds have been autographed by Eddie Shaw the sax player in the movie & his son Eddie Vann Shaw but I did enjoy the movie just because of the Cigarbox Guitar that was in the movie and knowing Shane has played on this guitar help with watching the movie.
  • Keb Mo sto the show. Pure Mojo drippin' of his guitar, wish he woulda' played more. Danny Glover's an ok actor but a raving idiot who said the earthquake in Haiti was a result of made man global warming, hard to take a gut seriously after a statement like that.
  • The film did not do well at the theaters. Keb Mo's character was the best part. The Honeydripper guitar is very cool. I agree though- slow film
  • The best reference to that guitar was the .."What the Hell is that supposed to be?" ... comment by Glover.

You must realise it was a movie, NOT a documentary ... it doesn't have to be historically/geographically/anatomically/etc. correct ... just take it for what it is.

Keb' Mo' as Possum was a superb character ... I always regarded him as Glover's sub-conscious guilt ... nice National though.
