Nicely done. I wouldn't bother refretting as chromatic. It isn't going to change the fundamental fact that the distance from fret 2 to 5 is a long stretch unless you use a capo on the 2nd or 3rd fret. I have big hands and to fret a C chord with index and pinky is a stretcher. Just play the music that is convenient on this guitar. It has a voice and a song in there.
Build another and choose a shorter scale around 23 inches. Or, pick up a regular scale length chromatic guitar and see how far you have to go down the neck with a capo before your longest stretch is fast and comfortable. Try playing that for a little and then use your new capo scale length for a future build.
