Experimental Things with Strings

I’m seeing the whole CBG revolution as being:

  • Historical
  • Collaborative
  • Innovative
  • Experimental (Building on history, collaboration and innovation)

In that spirit, and given I have my own soapbox blog on CB Nation (yay!), I want to introduce a link for an interesting fellow in the UK, that somehow fits into the whole CBG Esprit de Corps:

Tom Fox

Some of his work might be another world away from CBG, but was interested to see some of his work parallel to Shane Speal’s own discussion, “Piezos from Outer Space!!!”

In particular, I appreciate  Tom’s thoughts and words  on Faraday’s Law, and his post on his Mini Drone Machine:

Just sayin’, just thinkin’...

  • You're right about starting. I watched my neighbor in my RV  park for almost a yr building canjos,( which I had no interest in building, but mildly curious about) it wast until he started building CBGs that I really took notice. The problem  was they sounded like crap off key twanging ( if that's a word)and he was getting frustrated. To help him out was going to call the people he got his hardware from for advice( he kept telling me g b betty. He's in his 80's) to get to the point, I found cbn and started watching videos on building. Then started asking him questions about scale, strings, fret layout and so on.  One day he handed me a bunch of hardware and told me" go build your own, I'm busy!" So here I am, a world class CBG builder! Not really, it just sounded good! I've got a lot to learn to be in the league of some of bunch. Welcome to the Asylum. If you have"any" questions or ideas, someone will help!

  • LOL not arguing on any of that... his website actually led down many other circuitous paths, and in part eventually led me here to Cigar Box Nation. One of the wonderful bits about the Internet is ideas and experiments, no matter how small and fragmented, or comprehensive and extensive, can be documented for everyone to dive into, digest, share, and build on.

Now I just need to move from thinking to doing.  ;^)

  • Checked out the video in the tubular bell section, not to be critical. Although some of the ideas are unique attempts at reinventing the wheel. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for experimenting, God knows we'd be in the dark ages with out it. From the 1 or 2 sec segments it was hard to get a grasp on what the inventor was trying to convey to the viewer.
