#7 -- 'Gutshaker'

I just finished the 'Gutshaker', a bass created from an old silverware box I found at a secondhand store, which is adorned with my handpainted version of Ed Roth's Rat Fink and oldskool pinstriping on the back, my second most favorite hobby after CBGs. To compliment the sound holes and bridge, I helped myself to one of my wife's silver pie/cake servers for a tailstock (I hope she doesn't get too upset). This thing really sounds good, and it is a gutshaker, when amped.

  • Hi Jason: You like?
  • Holy Moly!!
  • Delvero: I like the glasses on your profile 'mug'. Many years ago, I had a lot of young guys hanging around the garage kicking tires on the rigs I was building and wanting me to make their stuff run fast and look good, so I finally had to put a sign up to stop the onslaught or adopt them, so up went the sign . . . "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go!" Those were the good ol' days. Maybe we can work out something, what kind of special bennies can you bring to the party? ;-)=[
  • Jess, PLEASE PLEASE adopt me!!!
  • Thanks, Delvero. I've been lost in the fifties for more years than I care to admit, and started pinstriping the day I saw Roth's work in the miii-Car Craft mag way back in the day. The 'Gutshaker' is my knockoff of the Rat Fink, which I thought was the perfect icon for the bass, to say nothing that it is also the name of the last rod that I built for my son.

  • Beautiful work! Always have enjoyed Ed Roth's designs! Brings me back to my childhood.
