"Hey, guys, thanks for all the thoughtful and helpful replies. Since this is my first fretted build with my first mag pickup (CBGitty single coil), I think I'll go with the fret board stopping at the box rather than overlaying the box.…"
"Scott, thanks for the clarification. I'm ready to power forward. I think I will trim down my rosewood fret board blank so I can practice on a real piece of hardwood (also the eventual board for this build). This is going to be a 1/4" fret…"
"Scott, thank you for your detailed reply. I want to make sure I have it right. Does the fret slot need to be deeper than the tang, or does the tang bite into the wood at the bottom of the slot?
I guess I'll have to practice on a true hard wood…"
"My next build will be my first with frets. I am going to use a Rosewood fret board over a red oak neck. I purchased a 1/4" x 1 1/2" piece of poplar to test with. I am having a helluva time fretting this poplar. I am using…"

Depending on the customer's needs and what kind of PuP (if any), I cut out a large section of the neck to elevate it above the box. Reinforce the box and…"
"I think all of mine have been fretboard overlays the sound board. It presents some interesting challenges. You can do as Mad says and use the box upside down. If you are really attached to the look of the graphics, you have to go…"
"No problemo Peter, you can either build with the box upside down (lid against your belly) or if your box has a deep lid rather than a flat one, attach your neck to the lid with a notch cutout in the bottom that allows the whole lid/neck assembly to…"
I like the look of the fret board overlaying the cigar box where the neck joins the box (like on a six string guitar) rather than having the board stopping at the point where the neck connects to the box. It presents some challenges in the build though. It seems that installing the neck with the board overlaying the box effectively locks the box lid closed.I'm not sure if I'm making myself clear, but I I'd like your thoughts (Cigar Box Guitar Nation).thank you oh wise ones.PeterSee More

"Hello Peter. If you are still interested in a table. Check out Harbor Freight Tools. I just bought a table with light and 3 electric outlet mounted with a peg board back and 2 shelves. I paid a whopping $75.00. Here is my reasoning. I combined all…"
