This is my first UBass Build. I've had the parts for over a year but just finally got around to putting them together just before Christmas. My intentions were to build it with a 20" scale length but when i started cutting the slots for frets I grabbed a printout I used for another build for a Baritone Uke with scale length of 23".
I had it completely built and was playing around with it through an amp before I noticed the Octave 12th fret was no where near where it should be. Luckily the strings were long enough and I had enough room to move the bridge 3"!! Im pretty happy with it now. (These pics were taken before I lengthened the scale)

Hey, there you are Chuck! I'm hoping you saw the U bass I made after being inspired by your's and Hilo Greg's builds. I think it's still on CBN top content. It's my favorite bass now of the four I've made.

Brent, sorry for the delayed response.
The strings are Aquila Thundergut strings. They come with a crimped on ferrule and nylon washers. I found they weren't the best for holding the strings and ended up doubling the string over and tying it with a small wire tie on the inside of the box.

How are the strings anchored inside the cigar box?

Very nice.   I hope to try building a cigar box U bass this year.

Marcus,
I just posted a sound demo in the Video section. I'm not a Bass player but I got on YouTube and learned a tune to play for the demo. (My Bass playing sucks but maybe you can get an idea how it sounds)

Yes the tuners, the nut and the Aquila strings all came from Large Sound.

Did you get the tuners from largesound.com ?

LOL! Thanks Kevin, I really wasn't going for the "faux-Samoan War club" look but I have to admit there is some similarity!

Never seen strings like those before.  It's a wild concept - haven't made my first uke yet, although I have the box set aside for it.  Wasn't thinking 'bass' for one, though.  Very interesting and the faux-Samoan-war-club headstock is an appropriate look visually.
