Hi All,
I have a question about an amp I made from a Califone cassette recorder.
When I turn up the volume full (8-10) and play, the sound stops, like it's cutting out. I also get a repeating throbbing kind of "wump" sound. No overdrive distortion. If I turn it down to about 7, it's fine and clear sounding. Is this an issue with the size of the speaker? The speaker is 3 to 4 inches in diameter.
Thanks for any insight.

Well I'm not totally sure what it is, but it sounds as if either you are over-driving the amp circuit in the cassette recorder or you have pushed the speaker beyond what it can reproduce. I would hedge more towards the amp being pushed beyond what it can handle.
Thanks for your response. That's what I was king of thinking... I guess I'll have to make a better one with a larger speaker. I couldn't beat the deal on this unit, free! Lol. It was a good one to learn how to rig it as an amp.
