Actually, on one of my favorite builds, the only wood in the box is the back. The lid and sides are all of paperboard. It has a wonderful voice and after nearly two years still sounds great acoustically or through an amp with it's dual piezo pickup.
I'm not really being snarky, and I can only guess what damping effects the cardboard body would have, but I think part of what attracts most of us to this lunacy is just how good even the worst ideas sound.
