http://www.mcmaster.com/#steel-u-bolts/=2rr893 then visualize a hinge at the "U"...

I looked up some mechanical suppliers, and the smallest rod size is 1/4 x 20. I will keep looking. I think 1/8 to 3/16 would be ideal.

Try a hinge bent around with a threaded rod bent into a "U" and metal trapeze with as many string holes as you need. The hinge would be the tail, the top of the hinge bent around would anchor the U-bolt, and the cross piece would have holes for strings in it. I saw some square U-bolts about 2 inches wide, with 3/16 inch round stock. Might be too heavy, but maybe a start point..

Thanks but I'm looking something that mimics this pic. Hinges are nice and I've done a lot of them, but I'm trying to locate the bridge in the middle of the box without having a long run of strings from the bridge to the tail... besides, that's a cool look... the best, Wichita Sam

I sometimes use fancy brass hinges from the hardware store. Already has holes, and some look unusual, and come in an endless array of styles.

I make trapeze-style tail pieces out of plain bits of sheet brass. I can't tell you the exact gauge because its just a chunk of old sheet that was lying around in my garage. I just cut pieces to a basic shape with some shears, drill a few holes, bend by hand with a vice and finish off with files and wet-n-dry paper. I should add that I'm careful to deburr the holes thoroughly so they don't damage the strings.

OK,

I'm looking for a smallish "trapeze" style tail piece (happy to build or repurpose something) to be used on strummers and smallish three string CBGs. I'm coming up blank... Got any ideas?

the best,

Wichita Sam

here's an interesting article on experimental guitar making and third bridge design, as well as tuning, scale length, and how to mark pitches on microtonal instruments

Steven, yes i do build Stonehenge humbuckers. I've been too busy to add them to my store, but if you want, just order 2 and leave a note in the comments box when you pay.

I don't charge extra for the different shape components, reversing the magnet polarity, the winding, securing them together or wiring them for installation.

Or just email or call and I'll hook you up!

There's a couple videos on my page in the YouYube app - The Swamp Growler...
