A set of nut files ... $70 at Warmoth .... problem is the skinny ones ..... hmmm...
X-Acto saw blades are pretty thin .....
picked up a couple at a hobby store ...only needed 1
#239 blade thickness (by my micrometer) is . 011 .... "set" is .016
My Crown "gent's Saw" - .021 / .035 .... so ....
I gets me trusty little ballpeen hammer and lay about the end 2" of the Xacto on the "flat anvil" portion of my benchtop machinist vise and flatten the set ..... same deal with the gent's saw ..... Now I got 1 blade w/.011 and .016 and another with .021 and .035 .
Used 'em "backwards" (pull-stroke) on a piece of black plexiglass (pretty hard stuff) for a 4-stringer nut , worked good enough for me to keep the $70 for somethin' like food or the electric bill ...
Ran an old wound string thru the 2 largest ones to smooth off the groove bottom .
Drug the dull edge of a singleedge razorblade thru the other 2 .
