After joining this forum in 2014, I finally have my 1st CBG which my wife bought for me at the weekend (a 4 string from Frethound Custom Guitars). I was never going to get around to building one. Now…Continue

Hi, I'm HazelFyrebird, and I'm a wannabe luthier (I feel like I'm standing up at a Builder's Anonymous meeting...) in Virginia. I'm a bit of a lurker, as I've been reading and reading for a while,…Continue

This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Hello again,
I came back from 2011. 10 YEARS AFTER.:-)
I like mostly cigarbox music. I have several CGBs but they are not popular over here Japan. I write some songs and play CBG. I respect Shane Speal and many of CBG players.
Best regards,

Hello folks
I'm new here. I have retired from professional life and am now simply enjoying the freedom to make, mend and build all sorts of crazy projects which please me.
I was given an empty wine box, so I made an acoustic three-string guitar with it. A friend suggested I add a pickup to it.
My main aim is to recycle and re-purpose wherever and whenever possible. You'll see how my weird head works if you take a look at my first post.
Cheers
Peter
Paul , Lol, Sorry if i put that vision in your head too long ;-)

Roy,
I agree with the comments you have received. I like both the mag PU and Piezo PU so a often install both, but I use a potentiometer (volume knob) on each PU, usually install a psycho knob (Artec QDD). This allows me to blend the output of each PU, with overdrive and/or distortion of my “tone” knob (Artec QDD), with clean play to OD and/or distortion. Im not much of a musician but I like to experiment with sound and tone
Roy .. usually . a piezo in overdrive sounds like pulling a cat through a keyhole , or 2 screaming skeletons humping on a tin roof using a tin can for a condom . Piezos in general do not like overdrive or distortion . BUT they can be tamed with an eQ box or preamp . They are pretty sensitive to begin with and can even pickup the hair on your arm rubbing against the neck on a clean play . etc . hence most folks try to tame them instead of boost its sensitivity . but . done right it can handle some dirt and distortion . this usually involves a preamp . or messing with your amp settings to find a sweet spot that it likes . .Also most folks embed the piezo in hot glue , then cover it in hot glue again to tame it in most installations. and the sweet spot for mounting is usually by the bridge on the bass side . but best to use temp tape to try and find the sweet spot first .
(I assume we are talking disk piezos?) Rod piezos are a bit different story .
hope that helps .
Hello all !
I'm not new here..but have a simple question -
I have been building for the past 7 or so years.... always use magnetic pups. I want to experiment with piezo pups. but want to know how they react to pedal FX such as an overdrive pedal or distortion pedal. How are the piezos positioned in the box for best possible results and sound if I want to run an overdrive pedal
Thanks
Welcome aboard. We have a few over UK members round abouts.
