Just getting into this CBG thing. Built a 5watt amp a couple weeks ago. Now in the midst of building a LBG, or what is referred to as a Letter Box Guitar. I am using a box that held a stencil set, brass I think, that I inherited from my grandfather (Pepere). It is 16" long, so has been a challenge to figure out scale and such. Curly maple neck, birdseye maple head, rosewood (real) fret board. I build furniture for a living, so I got some neat wood to work with and tools too!!

Great job on both. They look great. Really like the CBG stand you have there too. What kind of amp is that?
It's the 5watt tonemonster MAH5 kit off Ebay. A friend gave me the link and it's pretty sweet! I went a little crazy with the enclosure and the control board. I cut in a 9 volt battery compartment in the back after too. I got that from CBGitty.
I looked the amp up on the net. Nice little amp with built in tone selections. One thing I've discovered about little amps is they sound better with bigger speakers, 6" - 8" - 10" and even 12".
I'm just getting into that, so the kit was great. It sounds awesome. Next one I am going to do is going to be that wiring harness but my amp friend here is ordering me a 15watt 6" speaker when he orders his stuff. Not sure if I order 4ohm or 8ohm though. He will know though and order what's best I would imagine. Lol!
I got a medium set of strings as the small string was twangy and I didn't like it. The medium set from CBGitty are all wound strings. It's awesome now! I lowered the action some too. It worked fine for the slide but not using fingers on there! It sounds awesome. I need someone who knows how to play to make a little recording soon. Can't wait to make another one! I am going to focus more on making the boxes and doing wacky stuff I think and let my friend do the actual cigar box builds. It is sort of more my style. I have all kinds of ideas flowing through my head!!!
That's the great thing about these instruments, you can use just about anything for a body. I have an old gas can for my next project.
I built a couple of amps awhile back. A 1 Watt "Ruby" amp with a 6" speaker. Uses the LM386 chip(sounds like a Fender Champ). The other amp was one I designed using 2 Lm386 chips and has a 2 stage gain(Fender Champ on steroids). Amps can be fun too, but you have to be careful with the tube ones.
I actually make open ended boxes out of cherry for a guy who makes tube amps! They are pretty cool, but just the amp, no speaker. I ordered my amp/speaker parts from that Monster place on Ebay. Only thing I don't like so far is the 9v battery connection is weak at the board. Afraid it will break. I need to get into soldering my own stuff I guess...
Batteries are good if you don't have access to electricity when gigging. I use 9v wallwarts, but they can cause interference problems in some places. I have though about converting over to real transformers. That can get expensive, but Radio Shack still sells some cheap ones.
