first I am not really a musician, but I'm trying! My neighbor (we grew up in the neighborhood together) is a professional musician, and he always has people coming and going. Last summer I heard some banjo music being played. I went over and Phil was playing a banjo, and we started talking about Minstrel shows, banjos, and an ongoing gig he has at a Los Angeles bar called the Redwood. Phil showed me some chords, strums, and other musical items, including a turtle shell banjo.
He told me of two musicians he met there, Frank Fairfield, and Jeron "Blind Boy" Paxton. I attended a show in September and I just love the old-time music and blues.
Next thing I know, I have acquired a couple of banjos, a guitar, and now I've been bitten with the cigar box bug! I built a diddley bow out of a kid's jewelery box. It came already named Brianna, since that was the name on the box. Guess I'll have to name all my builds from now on.
Anyway Merry Christmas to all,
Tom
