Hey, all! My name's Lisa, and I live in the White Mountains of Arizona, where we just got about half a foot of snow!
I have builds 4 & 5 in progress, both basses. 6 if you count the rebuild I had to do of my first one, when my husband knocked it off its stand and broke it on tour! I learned from Glenn Kaiser, an amazing bluesman, who taught a seminar at the very last Cornerstone Music Festival this summer. I had a blast and couldn't stop when I came home.
My "real" job is called Hope in Transit; we have a traveling music school that goes around the Navajo & Apache reservations and teaches music to kiddoes. Kinda a way to build relationships, and live out a little love. So anyway, one of my former students went through a training program up in Chicago with Glenn, so he worked with him on their cigar box guitars, and helped teach me.
So now we're teaching the CBGs as one of our units in our music lessons. This is the first time we've tried it, but the kids are having a great time so far. I can't wait for the next few weeks when they get their aha moment, like I did, where they realize they're not building a novelty item, but a legit instrument.
Anyway, I'm a total novice, just learned how to solder for this purpose, but couldn't be happier tinkering around. I put up some photos, and I'd welcome any feedback or advice. I've had some really great help from luthier buddies, and I'm excited to learn. I'm incrementing up: Project 1 was piezo to jack. 2 & 3 were piezo to volume control to jack. 4 is basslines mag pup with both volume and tone control. 5 will be film piezo with preamp, hopefully.
Thanks for all the resources! Looking forward to exploring further!
