Hi All,
Another newbie. Here's the facts:
1) Have played the guitar on and off for about 30 years (never seriously)
2) Recently decided to actually get serious about it.
3) Always loved roots music, delta blues and tripped across info on CBG's and fellin love with the idea/sound of them.
4) Bought a cheapo one on ebay to see what went into playing/making one entailed.
5) Got it and decided "Hell, even a schmuck like me may be able to do this!"
I've got little in the way of woodworking skills or tools but i'm willing to give it a go.
So far I've dropped a couple bucks on Bill Jehle's CD (well worth it IMHO), had a great email conversation with Paul Bush out at Mojo CBG (he suggested joining here). Many thanks again Paul all the advice and direction! I've also grabbed the few pdf files on building a CBG and am sitting scratching my head while I decipher them......it's the damn neck thing I know will frustrate me!
Anyways, enough from me. I'm here to learn and ask questions after I scour this website. Any pointers to "necks for newbies" are welcome and appreciated in advance.

Thanks James! I need to stop thinking and get going. I've been pricing tuning pegs on ebay and the stew mac catalog. Looks like 6 for around $12 is pretty standard' Also looking at broekn guitars to see if there's somthing cheap I can do some salvage on.
Thanks Nigel. I had heard the Nation was a supportive one. I really like the pictures of your first attempt!

HI, just thought I'd offer some encouragement - I built my first JBG (Jewelry Box Guitar) a few weeks back. I have no history of woodworking and had no tools other than the usual rusty things lying around the house for minor repairs. But I gave it a go and I think it looks great and plays great and its mine - all my own work :) But i did have worries about the neck. In the end I just used a piece of wood that was lying around the house and cut out the rough shape of a guitar neck and then sanded it down to the finished version. I didn't bother with frets as it was going to be used for slide (it has an action you could limbo dance under) and, guess what? no fret rattle with the slide! I put on the position markers (dots with a CD Marker pen) when it was strung up and tuned by finding the notes by ear and then marking them. The fitting of the neck was easy - slotted through a hole cut in the box and then screwed tight from the bottom of the box - the main thing is remember to cut a groove in the neck so that when the box is closed the top of the neck is flush with the box - hope that helps - if I can do it anybody can.
