Howdy from TX

1st, thanks for the add!

2nd...time for the introduction.  I'm logging in from the outskirts of Tomball, TX, a town NW of Houston.  I've had a McNally Strumstick for MANY years, but still have a very limited amount of skill with it.  I have an interest in woodworking (toys and kids stuff, mostly)and recently came across a store in a flea market part of town that was selling cigar boxes for $5 each.  I didn't have money for them at the time, but it got me to thinking about cigar box guitars.  While waiting for a large enough paycheck to hit so I could spend a few extra bucks on cigar boxes, I did some online research and found this site.  I also saw lots of folks saying cigar boxes can be found for $2.  So I called around and my local big name liquor store has them for $1.49 for "all-wood" and 25 cents for "paper."  I went in twice...first time I bought 3 boxes for a little over $2.00, then the day I picked up four more for $1.  7 boxes for $3 and some change...much better than the $35 I'd have had to pay the other fellow.  (They're decent boxes, too, just ask my wife...she snagged one for her pens and pencils.  It was one I wanted for myself, but that's marriage. lol.)

Been trying to figure out the cheapest way to go about creating my first instrument.  I have in mind to make a 3 stringer using fishing line and eyehooks instead of guitar tuners and strings, but put in such a way that it could possibly be upgraded later on when cash allows.

Lots of great stuff here, and seems like some great people, too.

Jeff

  • Welcome Jeffrey.

I played, built and worked on guitars for years. Saw a video of a guy playing a CBG and that got hooked. I've made 5 and working on #6 and #7 now.
