Greetings from Port Hope, Ontario

Hello there to all my newfound friends! I am a Canadian blues harp player who recently took up guitar and then stumbled upon CBG's and can't imagine how i have lived so long without having one to play. I am in the midst of my first build and can't wait to plug it in and get started learning how to groove on her. I have been researching the Canadian side of this fabulous lifestyle and have yet to locate any festivals that take place near me. I am very motivated to start spreading the CBG vibe to everyone i contact and would love to get something happening here in Ontario. If any other members would like to comment on this thread or just chat to allow me to get more informed on how i can get more involved in bringing other enthusiasts to my area please drop me a line. Cheers and thank you all for this wonderful Nation you have made available.

  • Hello, Mark,

I'm fairly new to this also, and am slowly gaining ideas from this site, The important thing to remember is that there are

no rules in CBG's so get creative !  You could be a one man band with your blues harp. Just put the harp in a holder

like Bob  Dylan did and get a foot drum and sing also and you could blow people's minds.

    • Yep! That has always been my little performance dream Kenneth. I just love the freedom there seems to be when you don't have to rely on anyone else, although you also have to have self-motivation which hasn't always been my strong suit. This community has been a real inspiration for me though and i appreciate all the new friendships i have formes so far.

  • Mark,

the anonymous pick, famed builder of SwampWitch guitars, is from Ontario, and a member here at CBN. Y'all should hook up online...
    • I will do that, thanks for the info.

    • Hey Welcome Mark - You just missed a Blues Fest in Fenelon Falls - 3 day fest but hardly anybody there.
I as well am a reformed Harp player. I'm up in Barrie, as is Dave McQueen. Good luck with all this craziness!!

    • Thanks jawbone. I really need to get out and explore my surrounding areas for live music shows but you know how it goes. This gets in the way of that and before ya know it, it's Christmas. Ha Ha!

  • The more you play out, the more your love for what you do spreads. The other day I took my step son to an appointment. The doctor came out afterwards and said "you're that guitar guy!"
    • I can see how that would be the case. Once my Gitty is ready to play i will be hittin the streets.

  • Welcome to your new addiction! In my area I helped get interest in CBGs by playing out at open mic nights and jam sessions. People are always curious when they see what I'm playing. Then I start selling my guitars and giving some to friends as gifts. Where I live there's a folk music night once a month at a local cafe. Now three of the regulars have CBGs.
    • Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there aren't many opportunities near me for jamming, but i was thinking about just getting out in public and playing, or busking.
