Greetings from hilly Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I’ve been building mandolin kits and want to begin building one where I make design decisions. A cigar box mando seems like a good way to do this. I have a cigar box that I think is cedar and an old Hershey’s cocoa tin. I’m trying to decide which I should use for my first build. Any thoughts on why I should choose one over the other?

Hey Bean, I'm new to this bunch, and have no idea what I'm doing. IMHO re: where to start is: CBGs are a dime a dozen. I don't know anybody who has a Hershey chocolate resonator! I suspect it'll be a more challenging build, what with the metal and all, but, man, what a cool ax it'll be! Alternatively, practice on the cigar box (read: like me, make all your mistakes on the cigar box), and hone yer skills for the can. And the metal one will be extra cool 'cause you can use your Dremel metal-lopping disc and make all manner of sparks! This is all about cheap thrills anyway, isn't it? Cheers, good luck, keep us updated!
